Good Morning,
In today's newsletter, I will be sharing some tips on how you can boost your CV and improve your chances of landing any job. These tips will help those looking for a summer job just as much as they'll help those looking to take the next steps in their career.
1. Avoiding Lying Or Exaggerating
It is a common misconception that exaggerating on your CV is beneficial when job seeking. Although this can increase your chances of getting through to the interviewing process, your dishonesty will inevitably become evident - especially when lying about experiences and qualifications.
2. Tailor Your CV
Tailoring your CV to the role you are applying for is a highly effective technique for securing an interview. By examining the role’s responsibilities and the company’s values, you can alter your CV to match the criteria of an ideal candidate. It is important that you remain honest while doing so.
3. Avoid Clichés
Phrases such as ‘hardworking’ and ‘team player’ are used by a majority of candidates. By overusing these phrases yourself, you are voluntarily not standing out to the employer, increasing the chances that your CV will be skimmed through and/or ignored.
4. Use Statistics
Whilst covering previous roles/experiences, I would recommend taking a minute to highlight the results you provided for previous employers. For example, ‘increasing online sales by 25% over my first 6 months at Company A’ is an impactful way of showing the employer the value you can bring to their company, making yourself a more valuable and attractive candidate.
5. Highlight Your Growth
Employers love to see a candidate who is eager to continuously learn and develop. By highlighting your previous growth and adaptability, you show the employer your commitment to expanding your skillset.
6. GRAMMAR
Probably the simplest but one of the most important aspects of a CV is grammar. All it takes is one spelling mistake and your CV could be completely disregarded. Always proofread before sending your CV and even use Grammarly for extra guidance.
“You need to help the recruiters as much as possible, since they see sifting through CVs as a chore” ~ James Innes
